Thank you so much for replying. Uwb we're talking about CDC here. That seems suspicious to me. To get the examples working, I modified the inf file microcbip by microchip with their CDC code. You'd need no driver on the PC side for that. Surely it can't be a lot of work on the manufacturer's part to produce an 8. Once the installation has finished, power on the cutter. I think he was hoping he could get the latest driver here.
Windows just does it itself and it works. I added the serial COM port option, but still to no avail. I am also missing the file.
My device still doesn't work.

I can get PSUs of a smaller size with a similar power output for less than half the price from China and I doubt there is much quality difference either, these PSUs aren't exactly the golden standard but they're all I've got. I think I'm likely to end up with an arduino based monitoring solution which can send a power off signal to my PC when the battery voltage gets too low and can emulate an ACPI compliant battery in Windows hell if I know how I'm going to achieve this though.
W2K see the HID correctly. In some cases, the driver requires Signature Verification for it to be installed in Windows. Mon Aug 22, emulatiln I am sure there are Uber Users out there who might know better though you may also try posting your request on a Microsoft site though beware of "Not Invented Here" Syndrome.
I am far from an expert on the INF files. Since you say you're a complete newbie, it comes to my mind that you may not know that, and may have seen the part number on the chip, looked for a driver, found an INF from Microchip, and tried to install it to no avail. I'm basically using this for research and development at the moment. The sistem saw the insertion of new device but I haven't the driver for cdc under W I'm starting to understand the driver files better now emhlation.
CCS does not monitor this forum on a regular basis. However, I'm now on Windows 8.

Once your Computer has rebooted you will need to choose the Troubleshoot option. So Windows 8 is getting the right idea, but it's having issues. I have acquired a driver from which supposedly worked up to Windows 7 with the board.
After looking through a lot of sources and examples, I was able to come up with what I think is the right way to do it for at least Windows 7:
